Saving Original Photos in GPS Log
From Geospike DocWiki
IMPORTANT: This information applied pre iOS 4.1 and pre GPS Log 3.0. It is no longer relevant for users that have upgraded past these versions
When you take a photo from inside GPS Log, it is a little different to using the iPhone's camera.
GPS Log can save photos to the iPhone's Camera Roll (and does so by default), however no EXIF data is saved with this approach due to limitations of the Apple API[1][2].
If Apple supports the inclusion of EXIF data on photos saved to the iPhone Camera Roll in the future, GPS Log will implement support for it soon after.
Adding EXIF Data to Full-sized Photos
If you would like EXIF data to be added to your full sized photos, you can turn on the option in GPS Log "Also save a full-size copy to the App Directory" (from GPS Log -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> under 'Photos')
Then you can download the images from the "CameraRoll" directory via FTP.
Notes
- You may wish to turn OFF the option to save the photo to the iPhone's native camera roll ('Save full-sized photo to iPhone Camera Roll') to prevent getting two copies, and to save processing time (however, you are welcome to leave it ON if you prefer).
- GPS Log also saves a smaller version in the main App directory, so you can delete the images from CameraRoll after you download them. The size of this small version is set in the Photos option 'Size of photos saved in the App'.
- When the large version is available in CameraRoll, it is used for exporting, and display within the App giving you a better experience (e.g. uploads to Flickr will be at full size when the original photo is still in the CameraRoll/ directory)
